Conference Location:

The conference will be held on the 6th floor of the Main Library in the Centre for Research Collections. If you have trouble finding us, please ask the Help Desk on the ground floor for directions.

The campus is easily reached by bus, taxi, or on foot from Edinburgh city centre. Limited parking is available nearby, so public transport is recommended.

Travelling from Pollock Halls
Lothian Buses routes 2, 30 and 33 provide a frequent service from Dalkeith Road (adjacent to Pollock Halls) to the George Square/South Bridge area. The journey takes approximately 15–20 minutes, followed by a short walk to the conference venue. Alternatively, the walk from Pollock Halls to George Square takes around 20–25 minutes.

Bus fares

Contactless payment (bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay) is recommended. Simply tap when boarding; there is no need to tap off. Using the same card or device throughout the day automatically gives you the best available daily fare through Lothian Buses' TapTapCap system. Cash is also accepted, but exact fare is required.

Library Access

If you have a UoE Library card, you can use this to come and go from any of the Universities Libraries. For the Main Library, just scan in and out of the gates at the entrance, or enter via the Library Café.

If you forget your card or have trouble entering, a staff member at the security desk to the right of the gates will be able to help you. They have a list of conference attendees, so feel free to reference EBSW, if helpful.

The Main Library is open 24/7 during the conference. Please feel free to use the space outside of conference hours. Additional information about our library locations and hours can be found on our website at https://library.ed.ac.uk/using-library/lib-locate.

If you are interested in visiting the Heritage Collections Reading Room, the hours are:

• Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am-6:30pm

• Thursday and Friday, 10am-4pm

Wi-Fi

There is Wi-Fi available throughout campus. To access this, you have two options:

Eduroam

The JANET Roaming Service (eduroam) enables visitors to the University of Edinburgh to gain access to the Internet using the same username and password as they use at their home institution.

Visit-Ed

Guests and visitors can connect anywhere they see the Visit-Ed SSID (network) available on their mobile device. To access Visit-Ed:

• Look for 'Visit-Ed' under the available Wi-Fi networks on your device

• Tap Visit-Ed to connect

• Your device should launch the sign-in/registration page

• You will be presented with four options on how to connect to Visit-Ed.

  • Facebook - this will allow you to sign in with your Facebook credentials to get online

  • LinkedIn - this will allow you to sign in with your LinkedIn credentials to get online

  • WhatsApp - this will allow you to receive a code to allow you to sign in and is useful if you have no mobile (4G or 5G) signal

  • Text Message - you can get online with a text message sent to your mobile phone. Both UK formats (i.e. 07xxx xxxxxx) and international mobiles are accepted (+xx xxx xxxx xxxx).  Type in the passcode sent to your mobile device.

  • Register via Passcode (internal use only) - please sign on this way if you have been given a passcode as part of a hospitality / conference package.

• Complete the form and click Get Online

Food and Drink

For the duration of the conference (Tuesday-Friday 21-24 July), you are welcome to use our central University cafes for meals and refreshments through our voucher system.

Vouchers

There is a per diem of £28 for each attendee. We ask that you keep receipts and turn them in to us at the end of the week.

To access the vouchers, let the café staff know you are part of the EBSW group by showing your lapel pin when you check out.

The cafes that you can use for the vouchers are:

• Library Café

  • Located on the ground floor of the Main Library.

• Exchange Café

  • Located on the ground floor of The Business School at 29 Buccleuch Place.

• Canopy (takeaway only)

  • Located on the ground floor of the Edinburgh Futures Institute. The takeaway counter is located to the left as you walk in the door.

All cafes offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free selections. You can find out more about the on our website at https://catering.ed.ac.uk/central-area.

Local Favourites

If you choose to purchase your own meals, some of the local favourites near the central campus are:

• Nile Valley Cafe – Amazing wraps at a great price. Includes vegan and vegetarian options. Located at 6 Chapel St, Edinburgh EH8 9AY**.**

• Tupiniquim – Brazilian wraps offering vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. Located at Green Police Box, Lauriston Place, Edinburgh EH3 9AU.

• Civerinos Pizza – Offers pizza by the slice, including vegan and vegetarian options. Located at 49 Forrest Rd, Edinburgh EH1 2QP.

• The Mosque Kitchen and Cafe – Offer curries and flatbreads, including vegan and vegetarian options. It is down the stairs below the Edinburgh Mosque at 50 Potterrow, Edinburgh EH8 9BT

• Union of Genius – Soups and sandwiches in a charming atmosphere. Located at 8 Forest Road, Edinburgh EH1 2QN
